Newfangled Old Fashioned

2 oz
A whiskey made primarily from a corn grain mash, aged in charred oak barrels.
0.25 oz
A syrup made from dissolving granulated sugar (sucrose) in water. Regular simple is made by combining 1:1 sugar:water by mass, rich simple is 2:1 sugar:water by mass although only 1.5 times as sweet as regular. We always use 1:1 syrup unless otherwise noted in the recipe itself.
2 dash
A concentrated aromatic bitters made in Trinidad from water, ethanol, gentian and other herbs and spices; used in many classic cocktails like the Manhattan.
0.5 wheel
An orange colored citrus fruit. Many types of orange make an appearance in cocktails. The peel and juice are equally valuable to diverse cocktails.
3
In cocktails, cherries are sweetened in a brine, like maraschino cherries (marr-ə-SKEE-noh) or in brandy, like brandied cherries. They are usually used as a garnish, muddled into the cocktail, or used simple for their sweetened brine.
2 oz
A top fermented beer brewed with large portions of wheat to malted barley. Wheat beers are often hazy due to suspended wheat protiens and yeast.

Muddle the orange and cherries. Add everything else, except the beer, then shake with ice and fine-strain into a chilled coupe. Top with white ale. #muddle #shake

“While we prefer our old-fashioned the old-fashioned way, the “newfangled” old-fashioned is even better thanks to the beer.
